Saartje
Saartje is my guardian angel.
Looks like I did something wrong here. (I was unexpectedly admitted to hospital and didn’t tell her…)
Roosje
We found Roosje in the street when she was a tiny kitten, during particularly bad weather. My wife bathed her and fed her, and Roosje immediately knew she had a new mum.
Jackdaw flying into a cloud
Great crested grebe
Eurasian coot
Harris’s hawk
Couple mute swans with offspring
European jackdaw.
We’ve got so many of them here. Hang up a bag of nuts and you’ll have to fend them off.
White stork
For some reason, this one reminds me of Concorde.
This one lives at the falconry centre. It’s free to go where it wants, but it never goes far.
African eagle owl
The owl and me
This is the only photo not by me (evidently, as I’m in it). This little African eagle owl turned out to be my favourite at the falconry centre. He just sat next to me and softly nibbled my finger. Photo by Lia Bruins-van Wijngaarden
Bald eagle by accident
This photo was taken accidentally. But the way the light caresses the wing makes it a keeper.
Bald eagle
Unidentified
Not sure what this is yet, but it’s definitely a bird. Photographed at a falconry centre
Mammapoes
A devoted mother, and the most ferocious rodent killing machine I’ve ever had the pleasure to have in my care. Named by my grandson when he was one year old.
Mammapoes and the best car we ever had
Saartje and Noortje
This picture is perfect meme material.
“He said WHAAAT??” “He said he deserves the Nobel Peace prize… I kid you not.”
Oyster catcher on the border of Loch Tay
This lady had her nest on the lake shore right next to where we had our wedding reception (yes, we got married in Scotland).
A greylag geese family
Great tit
Great tit… I can’t help it, that’s what they’re called. This one sat there looking at us as if to ask “whatcha lookin at me for?”
